Over the course of this journey, I had to come to terms with my own voice. Being heard or silenced is a personal matter that I debated with myself a lot over. Here I will share a piece of the paper I wrote for my Writing 212 class and close it with some final thoughts.
While I was first writing, I was set on the fact that my stories were not important. I believed that my voice was not as important as the next person’s voice. I was just talking about my life, giving stories or recommendations that were not needed on the internet, especially compared to everything else out there which could be informative. Overtime, I had this feeling that my writing was not enough to be out there, but it started to shift when I started posting more often. Even though the work we do may be completely different, I still put the work into my voice like others. I realized that even I have a place in a world full of voices. Even though my voice may not be as strong as others, I started to feel how important it is to just have a voice. Everyone needs or wants to be heard in some aspect and this is something worthwhile for me. At the end of the day, I am glad I got to tell my stories that someone or myself may go back to read. Maybe these could inspire someone to write something themselves. Even with a smaller voice, I can reach at least one person and create a connection. One small connection would still make everything worthwhile for me. In the end, I came to the conclusion that every voice matters, including my own.
Writing for me is a form of communication with myself and others. Hopefully more people continue to write what's on their mind and spread their words.
