Shortly after making an article about how technology affects us, I started to think about how technology affects me directly. I began to realize that since the pandemic, I have relied on technology to keep me company.
As a person who never felt like phones were necessities in life, I was almost disappointed that I fell down this spiral staircase. What was once something I used for quick searches or small entertainment became a part of my daily life.
To combat this, I made a plan for myself. Rather than going to the gym, I decided to work out my brain.
For some people, including myself, the pandemic has made it easier to become addicted and distracted by the technology that surrounds us.
As times are changing, we also need to adjust how we behave and treat ourselves which is why I decided to implement a no phone zone for myself.
During this time, I decided to turn off my phone or turn on “Do Not Disturb” while I did other things in the meantime.
I will admit that it was difficult at first to adjust to this change. I started off at only one hour and even then, I wanted to pick up my phone just to watch some videos.
Slowly, over the course of a week, I managed to increase the hours I would restrict myself from using my phone. It would go from 1 to 3 hours but eventually these restrictions seemed unnecessary after the week.
It was almost like a slow transition back to pre-pandemic for me. I would ignore my phone, start taking notes on paper once again, and it became easier to focus on the work I needed to do.
If I can begin this transformation and already have progress by the end of a week, you can too!
This is my message for you to take a break from technology and go to the park or write a story or even spend time with family. Start day by day and eventually you will make progress. Every major change starts from one small step at a time.
Yessss this is so important to remember. It's hard but a relief to take a breather from the constant notifications.
