Technological Pause

Technological advancements are the best and worst gifts we have received.

As we live in a pandemic as this is being written, many people in the world right now are groaning as they open up their computer. What was once a fun device that was used to discover things, play games, or connect with friends, is slowly turning a curse for many.

At the start of this pandemic, I heard people saying how it would be fine to stay at home because they are always at home on their computer or phone. I was one of those people. After a year of this pandemic, I can easily say I regret those words.

Looking at my computer or phone is draining my brain at accelerated speeds now. I used to be addicted to just watching random videos or play a dumb mobile game for hours. Now I will do anything to go outside to get away from my technology. A vacation is what everyone needs right about now.

These unusual circumstances leave many opportunities though. In this year, I got my license, made time to read some books, and even made new friends. This time gave me the boost that I needed to treat myself to some “Brandon” time.

Learning how attached you are to technology is the first step in changing. Sitting for two hours in the morning watching tiktoks and YouTube videos could be spent with you preparing yourself for your day. Get yourself out of the cycle of having technology take up most of your day.

Start treating your brain with care and start exercising it. Go out to the park, learn an instrument, draw, or even write a story about how you started hating technology.

If you are reading this now, remember that technology is only as useful as we make it. An overabundance of anything turns into waste at some point.

The time for you start treating yourself to “You” time starts now.
